PHOENIX SYMPHONY DEBUT SEASON IN WICKENBURG
The Wickenburg Chamber Orchestra hosted the Phoenix Symphony’s first full season in Wickenburg this year thanks to funding from local benefactors.
On January 26, Maestro Hermann Michael conducted Beethoven’s Symphonies I and II and a world premiere of Stefan Freund’s “Roll Over”. The performance was followed by an elegant reception at the home of Landis and Sharon Martin for Maestro Michael and principal musicians and directors from the PS.
On March 3rd, the Symphony presented a family concert, “Carnival of the Animals”, conducted by Robert Moody. Children under 12 were admitted free and treated to a pre-concert animal petting zoo, an instrument petting zoo and a drawing station outside the Del Webb Center.
Principal guest conductor, James DePreist conducted the final concert of the season on April 12th, “Bach, Haydn and Mozart”. Concert-goers were unexpectedly treated to a pre-concert question and answer session with General Manager Kendra Whitlock and several symphony musicians.
The Wickenburg Chamber Orchestra has for many years worked to bring more music to our town and is very pleased that the Phoenix Symphony is now part of our lives. Enormous thanks to the following people and organizations who helped make this first season possible:
